All surfaces of the stone fragment were cleaned and then protected by applying a thin coating of microcrystaline wax. Once cleaned,the fragments was studied and brought together in groupings.

Since a great percentage of the statue was missing, the traditional method of filling in empty area was not possible because such additions would be highly speculative. The bulk of the missing material belonged to the back and base of the statue group, so the fragments could be supported by a frame-like structure within the original dimensions of the group, and not interfere with the sculpture’s original profiles. Such a structure allowed the individual pieces to be supported with minimal intervention while remaining unobtrusive.
